Overview of position

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Director of Development will oversee development and communications efforts as Gateways continues to sustain and expand its philanthropic base.

Core Responsibilities

- In partnership with the CEO and the Vice President of Development (a Gateways Board member), create and implement a development plan that strategically integrates fundraising and communications to advance Gateways’ mission and vision.
- Serve as staff liaison to the VP of Development and constitute a new Development committee.
Conduct research and prospecting of multiple donor sources; engage in direct solicitation of various levels of gifts, including major gifts.
- Develop and manage fundraising campaigns; oversee strategy and implementation of all fundraising events ranging from parlor meetings to Sweet Sounds, Gateways’ annual major fundraiser.
- Oversee all stewardship and cultivation activities, including gift acknowledgements.
- Staff the Parenting with Purpose committee and oversee the speaker series as part of community engagement efforts to the broader Jewish community.
- In partnership with senior staff, identify, research, and pursue new grant opportunities with foundations, corporations, and government agencies.
- Track, manage, and meet foundation deadlines, assure compliance with foundation requirements.
- Work with the Chief Operating Officer to develop and map out Gateways’ fiscal projections over multiple years and ensure alignment between revenue and expense budgets.
- Supervise a staff team that has responsibilities such as development support, marketing, and communications; supervision includes goal setting and performance management sessions with each supervisee and helping to foster their continued growth and development.
- As part of the senior staff team, collaborate with staff to develop organizationally consistent marketing and communications.
- Provide input to the Nominating committee regarding potential board members.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

- Minimum 5-7 years of development experience in a nonprofit organization, including managing and forging relationships with multiple donor sources.
- Tangible experience of having expanded and cultivated existing donor relationships over time.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; ability to influence and engage a wide range of constituencies. Familiarity with social media platforms a plus.
- Flexible and adaptable style; a leader and team player who can positively impact both strategic and tactical institutional advancement initiatives; management and supervision experience to grow a team of professionals.
- Should be a strategic thinker and planner, with experience in direct fundraising, events, communications planning, and project management. Experience with grant proposal submissions preferred.
- Ability to work independently.
- Experience with Raiser’s Edge or similar type of donor database preferred.
- Understanding of the local Jewish community, including the network of day schools and synagogues, preferred.
- Some nights and Sundays are required.
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's preferred.

Salary range depending on experience: $85,000-$95,000 plus benefits.
