Part Time

Program Coordinator

Challah for Hunger Boston

Challah for Hunger builds communities inspired and equipped to take action against hunger. We are a chapter-based nonprofit with a simple program: volunteers come together to bake challah, a traditional Jewish bread. While the bread is in the oven they learn about campus food insecurity and advocate together to create change. They then sell the challah and donate the funds raised to local and national hunger relief organizations.

We started our first chapter at Scripps College in 2004, and since then we’ve expanded to 85 college campuses and 10 synagogues and community centers that engage families with young children, donating over $1.5 million to anti-hunger organizations.

We are excited to bring our family chapter program to Boston this year and are seeking a highly organized and outgoing Program Coordinator to help us build our network and recruit volunteers to lead a family chapter.

The Program Coordinator’s work will fall into three categories:
1. Relationship building: networking and connecting with synagogues, community centers and anti-hunger organizations to share information about Challah for Hunger
2. Event planning: host 3-4 “Taste of Challah for Hunger” events to share Challah for Hunger with parents, with the goal of recruiting parents to establish a family chapter in Boston
3. Training: teaching those parents how to run a successful chapter that is ready to begin baking by July 2020

Relationship building and event planning will be the primary focus of the year, with training being a secondary responsibility starting in the spring.
