The Boston-Haifa Connection:
Parents at the Center

As the number of at-risk children in Israel climbs, we're working with Haifa's local government and major Israeli institutions to address this issue head on. Our programs target families with young children through early parenting intervention, and critical support to help each child reach his or her full potential.

Parents at the Center uses a unique parent-centered model that focuses on supporting families from at risk populations. We work with parents and their children from pregnancy through age six by creating a support system for parents. This is a universal model giving services to all families regardless of income, education level or ethnicity.

This “neighborhood” approach empowers the whole community. The approach is built on responding to parents’ needs and provides a safe space for them to share common challenges and joys of childrearing. The high level of trust between parents and professionals, paired with a warm, welcoming, state-of-the-art facility, has resulted in a revolutionary program that only keeps on growing. Russian immigrants, Arab families, Ethiopian-Israelis, veteran Jews, all come together for their children and the community.

Given its success, this model has attracted national partners such as the Joint Distribution Committee and the Ministry of Education, both of which are working together to pilot the model in cities across Israel.
