Leadership Development Institute: Our Team

Daniel Langenthal, Director

Daniel is an experienced educator, whose approach to human and organizational growth is informed by values of openness, engagement, reflection, team-building, and empowering others. As an experiential educator, his professional practice helps facilitate growth through active learning that helps identify obstacles and engages participants working together to find solutions. He has worked as a trainer, consultant, and educator with a wide array of clients from businesses to non-profit organizations, including working with teachers and youth-at-risk in both the US and Israel.

In his most recent role, as the Director of Experiential Learning and Teaching at Brandeis, he worked with faculty to help them incorporate active and reflective learning into their teaching. Prior to that, Daniel founded and directed MABAT, an Israeli non-profit dedicated to improving intercultural awareness among all Israeli citizens through experiential and diversity programming at Israeli colleges and universities. Daniel also served in the IDF, as a tour guide for the Society for Protection of Nature in Israel and as an Outward Bound instructor.

Daniel’s graduate education at Brandeis University earned him an MBA from the Heller School of Social Policy Management and an MA from the Hornstein Program in Jewish Professional Leadership. He also earned an MS in Outdoor Education from the University of New Hampshire. He volunteers with numerous non-profit organizations both Jewish and non, locally, nationally and in Israel.


Harvey Greenberg

Principal and founder of Nehoiden Partners, Harvey is an innovative, thoughtful and experienced business leader, executive coach, facilitator and consultant committed to creating effective organizations and workplaces. He has a pragmatic, realistic approach to solving business problems from the human and organizational perspectives, and in having worked closely with people from the operations floor to the boardroom has an appreciation of the multiplicity of perspectives to any organizational issue.

His consultative practice focuses on individual leaders and teams in both for profit and not-for-profit environments working to enhance their effectiveness in implementing their objectives. His work with leadership teams focuses on assuring alignment of organizational objectives, clear organizational structures and responsibilities, appropriate systems and processes, and productive, results-driven interpersonal relationships.

He has held various positions at the Polaroid Corporation, including Senior Manufacturing Manager and Senior Vice President Human Resources. He is past president of Jewish Family & Children’s Service and is a board member at Temple Aliyah in Needham. He has served as adjunct faculty member at Boston University, Lesley University and MIT Sloan School where he taught graduate courses in Organizational Behavior and Human Resources Management. He lives in Waltham, Massachusetts with his wife Helene.

Josh Elkin  

Joshua Elkin is an Executive and Leadership Coach focused on working with executive and volunteer leaders to achieve organizational and personal goals. He brings to his current work 35 years of executive leadership experience. Throughout his career, Josh has devoted his efforts toward supporting and nurturing leaders. Josh was the Founding Executive Director of the Partnership for Excellence in Jewish Education (PEJE), a position which he held for 14 years. Under his leadership, PEJE grew and evolved into a sustaining resource for the entire day school enterprise across North America, and across the denominational spectrum. Prior to joining PEJE, Josh was the Head of School at the Solomon Schechter Day School of Greater Boston for 20 years. He also served as an adjunct lecturer in Jewish Education at the Hornstein Program for Jewish Communal service at Brandeis University.

Josh completed his undergraduate studies at Columbia College, and then pursued and completed doctoral studies at Columbia Teachers College, while simultaneously studying for rabbinical ordination at the Jewish Theological Seminary, which he completed in 1975. His dissertation focused on the challenge of teaching Jewish adolescents about dying, death and mourning. In 1987-1988, Josh was honored by being selected as a Jerusalem Fellow of the Mandel Foundation. He is married to Judy Israel Elkin, previously a Jewish educator and currently a certified professional and personal coach. Together they are the proud parents of Jonathan, Benjamin and Liza. For recreation, Josh loves to sing, garden and bike.

Margie Zohn    

Margie Zohn has 18 years of experience as an executive coach to leaders worldwide, and is certified by the International Coach Federation (ICF). She focuses on leadership development, primarily in the areas of communication, facilitation, interpersonal dynamics and leading teams. Margie also designs and leads training programs for the corporate and nonprofit sectors. She holds a faculty appointment at Harvard University teaching public speaking, and teaches at the Simmons School of Social Work Urban Leadership Program.

In the corporate sector, Margie has worked with leaders at American Express, Capital One, Google, Fidelity, The Federal Reserve, Time Warner, McKinsey and Biogen Idec, and has taught at executive education programs including Harvard, Columbia, MIT and IMD in Lausanne, Switzerland. Working with nonprofits, Margie was Project Director for Inspiring Educators, and has also coached leaders from The Samaritans, Future Chefs, The Achievement Network and many others.  

A former professional actor, Margie has performed at Shakespeare & Company, The Lyric Stage and the American Repertory Theater, among others. She has also developed and directed projects for performance at venues in the U.S. and abroad. Margie chairs the Resource Advisory Committee for Journey To Safety, a domestic abuse program of Jewish Family and Children’s Service. She also volunteers with Big Sister, The Boston Minstrels and the Make A Wish Foundation. Margie completed post graduate training in executive coaching and organizational development, and earned her B.A. from Brown University and her Ed.M from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

Guy Sapirstein, Ph.D.

With a background in Psychology, Social Science and Judaic Studies, Guy Sapirstein has over 20 years’ experience assisting individuals, teams and organizations. Guy consults, trains and provides subject matter expertise on enhancing resilience through leadership and team development, organizational culture and change, as well as Executive and Leader coaching. Guy began working with Jewish organizations in 2009 as a consultant for CJP’s Jewish Emergency Management Service (JEMS) Program, and has been consulting to the local Jewish community on a variety of resilience related issues since.

Guy has been part of the IBM Global Crisis Response Team, and participated in responses following 9/11, Hurricanes Katrina/Rita, Pakistan earthquake, and several local crises. In addition to his crisis response work, he was a co-author of manuals for crisis response that have been translated into over half-a-dozen languages and distributed by IBM globally. He has written book chapters, scholarly articles and professional publications on: Team Development, Preparedness Planning and Crisis Response, Social Resilience, and Community Engagement.

Born in Israel, Guy completed his military service (including serving during the first Lebanon War and the first Intifada) and enrolled in Bar-Ilan University in Ramat-Gan. He received his BA and MA (Clinical-Rehabilitation Psychology), and then came to the U.S. to do his Ph.D. (University of Connecticut: Clinical Psychology). His dissertation on the placebo effect of anti-depressants highlighted the resilience of the human brain by stimulating the placebo response.
