A Community-Wide, Problem-Solving Collaboration

In 2018, CJP launched the largest listening tour in its 124-year history — The 360Five: One year. Five questions. Many voices. Over eight months, we held more than 72 hours of listening sessions with 1,700 participants representing 68 Greater Boston cities and towns.

This year, let's turn what we heard into action, together.

Rabbi Marc Baker and his colleagues know there are still too many in our community who are on the outside looking in. At Conversations for Action, they'll travel around Greater Boston to discuss what they've heard so far and, alongside you, find solutions to a simple but multi-faceted question: “How can we become a more welcoming Jewish community?”

We invite you to come, speak up, and share your ideas and solutions. Sessions begin in December and continue through Spring 2020. Browse session dates and locations to join an event near you.

Your voice matters. Use #CJPConversationsforAction on Twitter, and contact us at communityrelations@cjp.org.

What we are doing with what we learned

Last year, CJP received a remarkable amount of feedback through The 360five listening tour, including ideas that can be implemented immediately and others that require longer-term planning.

Here’s just some of what we are doing with what we learned:

We collaborated with members from Keshet who helped us make our website more inclusive. We are regularly updating photos to include a more accurate representation of our diverse Jewish community.

We’ve organized CJP’s strategy and impact team to align more effectively with the community we serve, not solely with the programs we run. We now have colleagues dedicated to building relationships in each of the regions we visited during The 360Five listening tour.

We are prioritizing and investing in arts and culture initiatives to better engage the many people who told us that's how they connect to being Jewish.

We’ve created and will soon launch a region-wide civil discourse initiative to improve dialogue across the Jewish community on issues that we may not agree on, but care about deeply.

We developed the LEAP (Leveraging Expertise to Advance Partners) Initiative to strengthen collaboration and organizational capabilities. LEAP is a partnership between CJP professionals, volunteer leaders, and community organizations.

We’re partnering with Jewish organizations, law enforcement, and others across the community to fight rising antisemitism in Greater Boston’s Jewish community while investing in security trainings and upgrades regionwide to ensure that our Jewish institutions are safe, secure, and welcoming.
