Living Bridges

Personal connections are at the core of our partnerships in Boston and Haifa. We’re strengthening these relationships by creating one-on-one experiences through exchange programs and informal education. People of all ages and their families are discovering how Living Bridges enriches life and strengthens the Jewish community.

Hatikvah Officers Mission
For one week in the spring, active duty IDF officers travel to Massachusetts and tour Greater Boston, giving presentations at schools, local synagogues and in private homes where they share their stories and answer questions. Discussion topics include Israeli identity, experiences in the military and the Holocaust.

Shinshinim Young Ambassadors Program
In partnership with The Jewish Agency, Shinshinim brings high school graduates from Israel to Jewish communities in North America for a “year of service” before the army. The Shinshinim act as young ambassadors building bridges between our community and Israel. During their time in Boston, the Shinshinim live with host families and volunteer in synagogues, Jewish day schools, public and other private schools, and other local organizations. Shinshin is a new program in the 2015-2016 year.

JCC Diller Teen Fellows
This yearlong fellowship for 10th and 11th graders focuses on Jewish identity, leadership skills and each participant’s relationship to Israel and community service. Fellows explore these topics through monthly workshops, Shabbatonim (Sabbath retreats), a peer-to-peer exchange with Haifa teen leaders, a two-week winter seminar in Israel and by hosting their Haifa peers for 10 days.

ConnectTech
This program gives students at MIT and the Technion, Israel’s premier university of technology, the opportunity to learn more about their Jewish heritage and Jewish people worldwide through social justice projects in Haifa and Boston. With Haifa Hillel and MIT Hillel as the lead partners, ConnectTech helps participants examine new ways technology is being used for social action.

Vacation with a Soul
Now entering its sixth year, this volunteer program takes a small group of American volunteers on a meaningful four-week journey to Haifa, Israel. Participants live in Haifa and engage in community service and learning activities.
The experience includes:

  • Volunteer opportunities for four mornings each week, working with children, teens and seniors at Haifa schools and community centers
  • An extended stay at the Dan Panorama hotel
  • Twice weekly Hebrew Ulpan classes, home hospitality dinners with Haifa residents and community leaders
  • Sightseeing tours
